Why Rethink?: In consultation with Steve's parents Rethink was chosen as the fundraising charity. Rethink (formerly the National Schizophrenia Fellowship) believes that people affected by severe mental illness have a right to be treated with dignity and respect, with equal opportunities in everyday life. Rethink believes that by working together we can create a culture of hope, support and recovery that embodies a belief in people's own ability to manage, change and improve the quality of their lives. Rethink will strive to create communities free from stigma and discrimination where diversity is recognised and respected. We believe that people affected by severe mental illness should be accepted as equal citizens. Research plays a central role in the work of Rethink - "Each study on mental health asks questions based on a particular area or problem for which more information is needed. Through this research, Rethink seeks to contribute to a better understanding of mental illness and the issues around it so that the lives of service users and carers can be better supported."
